"Delivering today's systems is critical, but we're also building the architecture of the future and making sure we're prepared for what our adversaries might do next," Gen. Chance Saltzman said.
"It's a way for them to understand what the threat is, but also they will have the ability to reach back to the government if they actually see something. So, we're trying to have a give-and-take discussion," Col. Richard Kniseley, the head of SSC's Commercial Space Office (COMSO) that manages Front Door, told Breaking Defense in an interview March 21.
As threats evolve, the winning model ties digital engineering to manufacturing capacity and a reindustrialized supply chain.
The new office will coordinate the commercial cooperation activities of the Joint Task Force-Space Defense at Schriever SFB in Colorado and the Combined Force Space Component Command at Vandenberg SFB in California.
"We don't want your traditional industry brief. We want capabilities that we can get after the threat quickly," explained Col. Joseph Roth, director of SSC's Front Door industry engagement initiative.
